Top Domain Name Sales

The world-record for the highest price ever paid for an Internet domain was broken in March 2008 when the domain FUND.COM was sold for an incredible price of US$9,999,950 in an all-cash transaction. The purchase price tops what the Guinness World Records books report as the highest previous price, the memorable BUSINESS.COM purchase by Ex-Disney executive, Jake Winebaum of eCompanies Ventures. The new record-breaking buyer is Fund.com Inc, a New York firm previously known as Meade Technologies Inc.

Business and Wall Street investors continue to assign higher values to Internet domains. The table below shows the reported top 20 domain names sales, or top bids that did not meet the minimum required reserve price.

Some reports list the sale of SEX.COM for $12 million in 1999 as the highest-priced domain sale. However, this figure does not make the top 20 list of highest price domains as the sale was not completed. The domain was eventually sold to another buyer in 2006 for an undisclosed figure.
